Last week, the Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura Beverly Hills invited Chef Kwame Onwuachi to curate a special Black History Month menu. The invitation marked the first time the osteria’s resident chef, Chef Mattia Agazzi, welcomed a guest chef to create a collaborative menu for the venue.

To show off this fusion of Afro-Caribbean and Italian culinary styles, the two held a luncheon and private dinner on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. The event marked Gucci’s 4th annual collaboration with the NAACP. It was hosted by NAACP’s President Derrick Johnson and Bethann Hardison, who serves as Gucci’s Executive Advisor for Global Equity and Culture Engagement. Hardison was awarded the Vanguard Award for Fashion at the NAACP Awards this year.

Over the span of three hours, attendees enjoyed a 6-course tasting menu reminiscent of a New York meets California convergence. Guests in attendance included Aurora James, founder of Brother Vellies and the Fifteen Percent Pledge; community organizer and activist Brittney Packnett Cunningham; EBONY’s August 2022 cover star Kofi Siriboe; philanthropist Cookie Johnson; actress LaTanya Richardson Jackson.

Here are a few highlights from the event:
