Rapper Lil Wayne Reveals Interesting Reason He Had First Baby At 14

Rapper Lil Wayne got his start in the music industry incredibly young. The Louisana legend has gone on to become one of the greats in his genre and has a lasting legacy to his name. He recently was honored for his contributions to the culture by the Black Music Collective via The Recording Academy. What he revealed there has everyone talking.

Lil Wayne was already making hits at the age of 12. He signed with Birdman’s Cash Money Records and went on to become their breakthrough artist. By 1999 he had released his solo debut, The Block is Hot. By 2004 he was already gaining buzz as a lyricist ahead of his time, something he solidified with The Carter series. 2008 would usher in his monstrous single “Lollipop,” which topped the charts.

While becoming one of the biggest rappers in the game, Wayne was also busy building his family behind the scenes. The young rapper grew up fast, having already attempted to take his life at the age of 12. By 14, he was already being faced with fatherhood, welcoming his first child Reginae Carter the following year with high school sweetheart Toya Johnson. The pair would marry in 2004, but only stayed together for two years.

Around that same time, Wayne had begun a relationship with singer Nivea that was on and off, even promising her marriage before returning to Toya. He would welcome his second child in 2008 with radio broadcaster Sarah Vivian. Eventually, he would get back with Nivea, and she would find out that she was pregnant at the same time as actress Lauren London by the rapper. Nivea would give birth in November of 2009, while London gave birth a month earlier. In total, Wayne has four kids.

The women in Wayne’s life have all said incredible things about him as a father. Daughter Reginae seems to have enjoyed a very happy life and has gone on to become a socialite, singer, rapper, model, and businesswoman. Lauren London has said that she and all of Wayne’s baby mothers have great relationships and support one another. “We are all good-hearted women who love our children, and we want them to know each other. Real friendships have grown from that foundation, and the result has been more love, less drama, and less trauma for our kids,” Lauren told Essence Magazine.

Wayne’s journey has not been easy, and he admits that sometimes things got dark. A few short years after his stepfather passed and he tried to take his own life, Wayne had blown up and went on his first tour. While accepting his award from the Black Music Collective, Wayne admits that all took a toll on his mother. So much so that at the age of 14, she asked him to have a baby because she was so lonely.

“When I came home, she said, ‘son, I can’t live in this house by myself,’” he said while choking up. Wayne then went on to thank Reginae’s mother for blessing them with his first child.
