A Buffalo, New York mother of three wasn’t planning on raising more children, but when a mother of three toddlers was killed at a party in September she took in the children. Last month on Oct. 13 Lashelle Roberson went into the doors of Basil Family Dealership to purchase a car that could fit the new additions to her family. Once she returned on Friday, the dealership and community members partnered together to gift Roberson with a 2016 Dodge Carven and gifts for her children according to Spectrum News.
In September Roberson took over guardianship of a set of 2-year-old twins and 1-year-old girl after 23-year-old Rayshionna Johnson was one of four people shot during a block party according to WKBW Buffalo. Johnson would later pass away from her injuries, but before she died Roberson promised to take care of Johnson’s children.
“Rayshionna asked me to take her kids and that’s what I intend to do,” Johnson said.
The Basil family told 13WMAZ says philanthropy is a company hallmark and they were happy to help.
“We’re excited to help her out,” John Basil said. “Giving back to the community is what our dad instilled in us!”
According to Spectrum News, a local police department filled the minivan with four car seats, while local citizens donated tablets, clothes and other items for the children. In a video captured of the surprise event, Roberson was at a loss for words.
