Last Wednesday a special appeals court has ruled in favor of the family of Korryn Gaines in a wrongful death suit.
In 2016, Gaines was fatally shot by police in several hour standoffs in Baltimore County. Since her murder, her family has been fighting on her behalf to get justice.
The family attorney told CBS Baltimore 13 the latest ruling is a good step. The family was originally awarded $38 million, however, that decision was reversed by a Baltimore County Circuit Court judge according to the news outlet.

The latest ruling says the judge was wrong. A special appeals court ruled the $38 million verdicts should be awarded to them. Gaines was fatally shot by Baltimore County Police in 2016 during a six-hour standoff at her apartment.
Police claimed the then 23-year-old pointed a shotgun at officers attempting to serve an arrest warrant.
“Korryn Gaines died a horrible, tragic, sadistic death, and we just wanted justice for her and her family,” Gaines’ family attorney J. Wyndal Gordon stated according to the news outlet.
